Earlier this year I had a change of heart. For years we we’ve been building two levels of speakers: good and all-out. The good ones have bested conventional audio by delivering twice as much performance in half the size for half the total system cost. To our customers, that meant obviously superior bang-for-the-buck. But the problem, for me, was that these systems performed inside of what’s already expected from high end audio. Still, that’s great, right? Yes. Great value. But here’s the problem: I’m aware of what is possible - I can challenge the frontier. Not good work. All-out, best possible work. I’ve been working with the new technologies for long enough to have experienced that they can outdo anything that’s been done before. I can work at the edge of what is possible. So, why does that force a choice? We can do both, right? Sure, except that my heart isn’t in it. I am at a stage in my life and career when my time and efforts are too valuable to do merely good work. I do get asked repeatedly to build budget product and conventional product. Over the years I’ve done plenty of that. But, no, sorry, only the best from here on out. We’ve just dropped most of our product line. Our current and upcoming products represent my best work. It’s not cheap; it can’t be. We start talking at $7K. But the performance/dollar ratio makes it an outstanding value.
